UK = US + 4
British labels run four numbers ahead of American ones for the same garment. US 8 is UK 12; US 16 is UK 20. Going the other way, subtract 4.
EU = US + 32
The mainstream European number (used in France, Germany, Spain and most high-street labels) sits 32 above the US number. US 10 is EU 42.
AU = UK numbers
Australian labels use the same numbers as UK labels. An AU 14 is a UK 14 and a US 10 — though some Australian brands cut slightly smaller at the waist.
The one exception worth knowing: Italy runs its own offset — roughly EU + 6, so an EU 42 is about an Italian 48; treat Italian labels individually rather than converting blindly. And in every country, these rules convert labels — they cannot convert a brand that grades its own chart generously or tightly. That's why the converter above also shows you the body measurements for your size: compare those with your own three numbers, and with the brand's chart, before money changes hands.

What conversion can't do
It can't fix brand variance
A converted size assumes both brands use the standard chart. A brand that cuts generously in the US and a brand that cuts tightly in the UK can leave you a full size out after a "correct" conversion. The measurements column is your defence.
It can't move between fit ranges
Petite, tall and plus ranges exist in every country but convert independently. A US 14W is not a UK 18 plus — plus ranges have their own charts, covered by the plus size calculator.

Built by a person, checked against sources
Ian Welkins
I build small, single-purpose calculators and check every number they print. This one exists because dress sizing is a mess of unregulated charts — the least I could do was gather the published ones in one place and show the working.
Found a chart that disagrees with ours? That's exactly what the report-an-error page is for — corrections get checked and the page gets updated.
